Lullabyes for an Insomniac

Styles of Journals | Get Started! | Idea sparkers | Journaling thoughts | Get to know me

My daughter says that it's healthy to have one obsession. I have more than one, but journals, blank books, and pens are probably the one combined "fetish" that makes me happy. I adore blank books... the feel, the smell, the look, the possibilities inherent in the empty pages. Being a people person means I enjoy reading others' thoughts also!

You can use a journal for a myriad of things: to jot down thoughts, poetry, dreams, to-do lists, goal setting, record keeping.... even your grocery list! There are NO rules. Journals are personal things. My journals go with me everywhere and have my entire life in them. I not only sit down to write in the current one every morning, the book goes everywhere with me and I jot myself little notes and reminders. My to-do lists and grocery lists are definitely in there, the pages marked with paperclips. My Christmas and birthday lists are in there. My journals reflect my everyday life. I know there are some people that use journaling strictly for "deep" thoughts or diaries. That is wonderful! But, there are no hard and fast rules. Your journal should be something you are comfortable with. If you are scared to mar the pages with what is in your mind (even if it is a reminder that you are out of toilet tissue) then the pages are going to remain mute.... no words to look back on and remember what was happening yesterday, last month, last year.... when your 21 year old son was 2..... yes, I still have that journal, with lists, lists, lists.... not much more, as that was a hectic year, but it does trigger memories.

A few other obsessions: the outdoors-especially hiking in mountains, my kids, my Dom, and retail. Chatting used to be on this list, but I have grown tired of it and rarely hit the chatrooms, nowadays. Now there is personal growth! I was a true chat junkie for a few years!

This page is about journals, though. I want to share my thoughts about them and show people how easy it is to start one, idea sparkers, and where to buy, how to make them, and show some of my favorite ones.
